Hello everyone,
It's been two weeks since my on-arrival training in Orahovica, and quite a lot has happened since then. Let’s catch up in this article !
During mid-February, while school was on winter break, I had the opportunity to work remotely on the zero waste project, which took me to Belgrade, the capital of Serbia! It marked my first trip to a non-European union country and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Belgrade's expansive city center allowed me to explore numerous landmarks, streets and monuments, including one of the largest Orthodox Christian churches in the world. Of course, I couldn't resist sampling various Serbian beers to savor the local specialties. Exploring another Balkan country was truly fascinating.
Last week, my focus was primarily on compiling the Dissemination Report for the Zero Waste Project. This involved cataloging all information, events, seminars, and publications related to the project. Although it was a lengthy task, spanning back to November 2021, it was incredibly rewarding to document the project's numerous successes and achievements. I learned a lot about the project.
I organized a workshop in Nathalia's English class focusing on zero waste items. Students were tasked with identifying actions that are zero waste/sustainable versus those that aren't. It was enlightening to see their engagement and understanding of environmental issues.
As we step into March, and anticipate the arrival of spring, we organized a creative workshop with students to decorate the corridor for Easter. From cutting flowers to drawing rabbits and eggs, the students showcased remarkable creativity. Congratulations to them all for their imaginative contributions!
To commemorate my experience in Croatia, I decided to get an abstract tattoo symbolizing waves with tiny dots, akin to a life postal card of my time in Zagreb. Thanks to the talented Tattoo Artist Kosi Ink for creating a memento of my journey. I know it isn't half of my volunteering here but I’m planning to go to the sea in the next few weeks, so it’s better to do it now for the healing !
