In February we went to Orahovica to participate in a training course for volunteers of the European Solidarity Corps programme. Overall it was a great personal and practical learning experience. Through non-formal education and a lot of fun group dynamics we dealt with key topics for our volunteering and our personal performance. Such as the functioning of volunteering within the ESC programme: our rights and obligations, the role of each participating element in the programme (non-governmental or EU organisations) or workshops on social skills and conflict management. This is certainly necessary information during the period we will be in Croatia, but also key information for our social and professional life in general.
Moreover, that week in an intercultural environment, where each of the participants came from a different country but we were all united by the same motivation and performance, was super useful and motivating to find even more our purpose in Croatia. I felt very much supported by the other volunteers, as well as understood and among equals. Without a doubt, the best thing about any life experience is to be able to share what we live with the people around us.
From this week in Orahovica I will take many useful lessons for my future, but the most important thing is the friends I will take with me for the rest of my life and who will accompany me in this country during these months. We were able to enjoy the swimming pool, it snowed and we enjoyed the beautiful snowy landscape, we were enriched by the group dynamics we did and we learned a lot from each other, but the cooperation and mutual support, the sincere listening and the words of encouragement from someone in the same position as you is something we will carry in our hearts forever.
