1- Creating Posters

One of my last tasks in my volunteer role was to create posters for the exhibition titled “Food is not waste, and I can make an impact!".

This exhibition is scheduled for October 1, 2024, in the entrance area of the national and university libraries in Zagreb. The exhibition is structured into several thematic sections that collectively inform and educate visitors about the issue of food waste. Each section will showcase artistic and creative works by students, which align with the teaching plans and programs of the schools they attend. The sections include:

  1. Food waste - ecological footprint
  2. Food waste in the Republic of Croatia: its origins and discarded items
  3. Household food waste - tips on storage, preparation, and handling to reduce waste
  4. Food waste in households - recipes for preparing dishes from surplus food
  5. Household food waste - understanding expiration dates
  6. Food waste in shopping - planning strategies
  7. Food waste in restaurants and canteens - including the concept of a "doggy bag"

As part of the Zero Waste Catering Lab project, we decided to focus on the section "Food waste in households - recipes for preparing dishes from surplus food."

To create the poster, I interviewed Viktorija, a 20-year-old student in her fourth year of pastry courses. I asked her several questions about kitchen management, preparing zero waste recipes, and more. The final poster showcases the interview, provides advice on cooking zero waste recipes, introduces the e-recipe book from the Zero Waste Catering Lab project, and presents a zero waste cake recipe.

2- Bosnia Trip

During one of my last weekend in Croatia, I had the opportunity to visit Sarajevo with Lisa, another volunteer, for a weekend. Sarajevo proved to be a fascinating city with a rich history.

3- Dalmatia Tour: Zadar, Split, Dubrovnik

Since my return to France is imminent, I decided to use all of my remaining days off to explore Dalmatia, the picturesque and sunny region of Croatia. Along with two friends from France, we embarked on a tour of Zagreb, Plitvice Lakes, Zadar, Mostar, and various cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, concluding with Split. Croatia's natural landscapes and medieval cities left a lasting impression, especially for a fan of Game of Thrones like myself, as many locations served as backdrops for the show.

4- My Return to France

As my time in Croatia draws to a close, I'm preparing to start a new job in France on Monday. It marks the end of my volunteer adventures at the Slava Raskaj Center for Education. It has been a rewarding experience participating in the Zero Waste Project and immersing myself in Balkan culture.

Goodbye, Croatia, and perhaps videmo se again someday :)
