For a few weeks now I've been giving Italian lessons to some of the students. When I first started this I didn't know exactly what to expect, I had never prepared lessons before, so I set for myself two goals: the first was to not bore them, and the second was to teach them something about my country. Regarding the first goal I think I've managed it well: they seem happy to have these lessons; and by asking them to give me some feedback each time I think I've been learning something about teaching. Regarding the second goal I've tried different things: for example during carnival I showed them some videos about the most famous carnival parades in Italy (the ones in Venezia and in Viareggio); last time I told them something about a few famous Italian movies; and for the next lesson I agreed with them that the topic would be the Italian regions. But of course I also need to teach them things like basic conversation words, and useful terms in general; among these topics the two in which I've noticed the most achievements from the students have been the numbers and the colours. Overall I'm satisfied about these lessons, about the students progresses over time, and especially about the fact that they like spending this hour each week and about the opportunity for myself to learn something new.
